If you have an older car, regular maintenance is important if you want to be able to get hundreds of thousands of miles out of it. If you do some things like changing the oil regularly, you car or truck will always perform like it was brand new. Some of the things that need to be done include brake jobs, changing the shocks and cleaning. If you want your car to go the distance and always drive like it was new, here are some of the things that will have to be done:

1. Changing Oils And Other Fluids In Your Vehicle

Changing the oil in your car is one of the most important things that you can do to get more life out of your car.  In addition to changing the oil, it is also important to change other fluids in your car such as the transmission fluid and coolant. The transmission needs to be flushed, which is changing the fluid and checking all the parts. Radiator coolant needs to be flushed and new coolant added to your car too. If you live in a cooler climate, you may need to have the coolant changed during different seasons, which you can do when you have the oil changed.

2. Doing The Brakes And Changing The Shocks When Needed

The brakes on your car will need to be changed often to ensure they work. The brake pads will need to be changed when there is little pad left on them. The brakes will also need to bled from time to time to get the air out of the brake lines. Eventually, you will need to have the entire system serviced, replacing all the fluid in your brakes. Having these things done can prevent major damage to your brakes and make them last as long as any other parts on your car.

3. Cleaning Dirt And Greasing The Underside Of Your Car

Cleaning the chassis of your car and the engine compartment can also help to get more miles out of it. It is important to clean any dirt and debris. If you live in an area where roads are salted, rinse the underside after driving on salted roads to prevent corrosion. You can also grease the underside of the chassis using a grease gun. This can be done to ball joints, tie rods and other parts. These usually have a special valve to add grease to them.

These are some of the things that will have to be done if you want to get the most mileage out of your car. If you need help with repairs and improvements to your vehicle, contact an auto repair service such as Pete's Service Center to get help with the essential maintenance you need for your car.
